The Grogs of the House of Wolves are in the majority the villagers (and their children) saved by Dione from marauding Franks during the Fourth Crusade. The village carries the curse of King Lycos in their veins; on the winter solstice of their sixteenth year, a son or daughter of the village goes to sleep human and awakens a wolf. On the following winter solstice they return to human form though often with the gift of skinwalking as a wolf: using a cloak made from the pelt they shed as the transformation reverses itself. Some don’t change back the first year but on some following solstice and some never come back, forming a pack of intelligent wolves who guard the village at night and the flocks during the day. Occasionally the wolf pack gives birth to a pup which turns into a human baby at the solstice.
